Natures Harmony
By Stephen Funk
I lay under a tree,
looking up through a canopy of leaves.
My arms are up around my head,
legs crossed,
and breathing in the soft spring breeze.
The wind softly dances along the land,
blowing the grass every which-way.
I feel a slight itch crawling up the side of my arm,
And I turn my head to see a caterpillar scaling my ligament.
I let him be,
seeing as how hes not harming anyone.
I feel him make his way down my arm,
climbing onto my shirt and scaling the ripples in the fabric.
I feel another tingling feeling crossing my feet,
the feeling of a beetle crossing along my ankles.
Then I see a lady bug land on my shorts, and watch as it starts to explore as the others have started to do.
I turn my head to the side,
and see a praying mantis slowly stalking through the grass.
I turn my head back up towards the treetop,
to see a monarch butterfly fluttering by.
I begin to hear the buzz of a honey bee,
as it sucks the nectar from a near-by flower.
I begin to fall asleep,
feeling at peace from being welcomed by my new friends.
I slowly close my eyes and begin to feel myself drifting.
I feel my companions slowly start to depart,
as my eyes finally close and I drift into the wonderful sleep.
